- Instruction to store employees given in Apple's internal memo
Apple will no longer repair iPhones that are marked Lost or Stolen. According to Apple's internal memo, the company will refuse to repair iPhones marked Stolen or Lost in the GSMA Device Registry.
It will not be possible to get an iPhone repaired at an Apple Authorized Service Center that is marked Stolen in MobileGenius or GSX Systems. Let us tell you that Apple has sent an internal memo to Apple Stores and Apple Authorized Service Providers which has been accessed by MacRumours.
According to this memo, if any iPhone is repaired at an Apple Authorized Service Center, the company will check it with the GSMA Device Registry database, if there is a Stolen mark then it will be refused repair.
It is worth noting that Apple has an existing policy under which the company still does not repair lost or Stolen marked phones. However, this only happens when the Find My feature is enabled in the iPhone.
The company's new policy will be applicable on those iPhones in which Find My feature is disabled. That is, now both the ways in which Find my feature is enabled or disabled, they cannot be repaired.
The GSMA Registry is a database containing the details of a stolen or lost iPhone. The GSMA organization maintains a global registry where smartphone owners enter the details here in case the devices are lost or stolen.
For example, if your phone is stolen or lost, then you can report it here. All the information is kept in this database and the use of the device is blocked.
Users, mobile companies, distributors, retailers, insurers can report in this registry of GSMA. Flagged devices are identified by the IMEI number.
