The letter said that other words can be used to preserve the glory and keep alive the memory of the soldiers of the Indian Army who made sacrifices to protect the sovereignty and honor of the country. There are six terms mentioned in the letter which can be used for the soldiers who have made sacrifices for the country.

The word Martyr is often used for the brave soldiers who laid down their lives for the country, but the Indian Army has said that the use of this word is wrong. This has been said in a letter sent by the Army Headquarters to all the commands of the Army. The subject of this letter, sent on February 2, is 'misuse of the word Martyr'. The letter said that it has been observed that year after year some officers of the Armed Forces and the media also use the word Martyr (martyr) for our soldiers who have sacrificed for the country.

It states that the word Martyr is used to refer to a person who has died as a punishment who has refused to relinquish religion, or to a person who has been killed for his religious or political beliefs. Therefore, it is not right to use this word continuously for the soldiers of the Indian Army.
